This is my next Coleman fettle, it is painted all black and apparently it was used as a prop in an Australian popular movie Who knows, story is a story goes
I’ve been cleaning my lantern up, the black paint was very stubborn, vinegar didn’t work, paint stripper worked but messy, landed up bead blasting it, ripped the paint right off, I did find the original owner A.Moore
I’ve progressed a bit, the paint was stubborn, bead blasting reviled some bad corrosion in the upper part of the frame, the collar had lost its coating, I cleaned them up a painted them with UHT silver paint, they look respectable now, the tank and hood cleaned and shined up ok, I had to re solder the fuel pick up bung, passed the dunk test, it has a 5 / 3 date, made in Canada, All the parts clean up well The gen was blocked, I cleaned it out the best I could, I assembled the lantern, fitted mantles , to my surprise it lit up well, but I think the jet may be worn out, see pictures Any suggestions as to why it’s going off like there’s no tomorrow
The jet is oversized. I don't know if you can find a new old stock Q99 generator in Australia but maybe one of our members in the down under can help you out, but I do know Mike at oldcolemanparts does have them. Here is a suggestion and it may now work at all but you are dealing with a double mantle Coleman lantern so in theory a 220 jet may thread into the top of your Q99 but this is just a suggestion because as I've already stated it may not work at all due to thread pattern differences. Someone else may be able to answer this question.
A 220 orfice will work just fine. They look a bit different, but share the same thread and orfice size. Good place to start
@Norman @Toby Garner Thanks fellas for the advice, I had a generator from a two mantle lamp ? I removed the jet, gave it a clean , it did screw in and tightened firm, . I did light up with a bit of a splutter, and did come good, looking good now
