Like a few others have mentioned, I've also been fettling the bits and pieces I've had laying around.

This needed a better hood and a globe but I'd had the tank, pump and control valve knocking around for years.

So, here's my 9th Tilley Guardsman. Before I got my first X246 I really craved one as they're so iconic but 9? No matter, it burst into life first time using an old vaporisers I found in a mixed box of goodies I bought years ago. It's been running well so far and doesn't seem to be losing pressure.

The globe came from a Bullfinch gas lantern I found abandoned in the heather by a burned out hippy caravan.

    Even the pressure tit works!

Thanks guys. It was so easy to get working it actually took me by surprise! New seals, mantle and a pre-heat and she was away!

    That's great.
Speaks volumes about the older tilleys when you can just add seals and a mantle and away it goes.
Nice that it will live on, maybe we could need them this winter.

The perpetrator was thrown outside? Never mind.
I like that 'finch logo on the glass. A fitting part also in looks on this lovely lamp. Nice one Colin!
Till what time did Tilley spray the steel cages with that rich 'flaky' golden colour? Did it not start with the early pork pies on just the tank?

The gold paint was me... when I first got it, the frame was quite rusty and needed some TLC.
