    Hello all,

Let me start with a hello and nice to meet you all, nice forum here with a wealth of knowledge.

I recently picked up an old tilley lamp, think its a guardsman, but would like confirmation.

Also needs a fair amount of cleaning and repar work, starting wth the pump, however im a bit lost as how to proceed, is there a guide of sorts as to which service kits i should get to repair the pump?

Hello Liam and welcome aboard!

Yes, it's a Guardsman lantern and it should restore well enough.

The pump is a much later replacement and it would be better to obtain a period pump, it would suit the lantern and work far better.

For replacement washers etc., check out the link below, Jeff.

    Thanks for the warm welcome!

So which pump styke should I be going for?
4 Styles of Tilley X-246 pumps.

Also is it best to buy a whole set of washers?
I thought a sp from base camp might be better?

    Many thanks

    Liam

Hello Liam, it's best to get at least one full set of washers, because they will all need to be replaced as that lantern is over 50 years old now.

Any of those pumps would do, but the third one from the left would be best and there are several listed on Ebay just now, Jeff.

It will do the job, but you may have to fettle it to working order, Jeff.

Hi Liam, What Jeff is saying is that you may need to change the NRV seal, the filler cap clamp washer and maybe the pump leather i.e. "fettle it". Fettling is a term for making good, repairing etc. Good luck - Steve.
