    An Anchor "909" 350 candle power paraffin pressure lantern with a broken coleman globe (glass) they are often a bit more rusty than your example. more here: Anchor

    This site has a no valuation policy but you will find them on ebay.

    or you could get it going and use it ?

    Welcome Heather,

    Well it is a machine using flammable fuel (kerosene) under pressure with a glowing hot gas mantle.
    So any study on how to operate and/or handle this machine would be advisable.
    Besides the fact that it has to be adjusted in the right way and maintained the correct way ;-)

    @george, I only know that it applies to my husband but perhaps lampies are more cautious.

    It's in lovely condition, much better than most you'll find but not worth a huge amount. A quick search on eBay will give you a pretty good idea. Did it come with a box BTW? Anchor lanterns are Chinese copies (sometimes called clones) of a German model called Petromax and they have been made in the far East in huge quantities for people who don't have mains electricity and many other uses like camping or fishing.

    As for lighting it, if you read up about them or watch some videos on YouTube you'll soon pick up the technique. They can be very useful in a power-cut just so long as you don't walk away and leave them.

    @Heather stevenson
    Find an experienced fellow collector nearby your location, via this forum .
    He or she might help to get this lantern working, if you are interested to use it ,e.g. for camping or garden light.
    You will find enough pictures of lit Petromax/Clone lantern. They give plenty of light with bit of hiss noise during operation. See youtube videos.
