Hi, I found this lamp a few years ago, and could not find anything about it. I am going to try again.
Welcome Dennis. That's a very interesting lantern, have a look here another example, US lantern manufacturers S – Z
I have moved it to other brands and amended the title to 'San Diego Lamp and Mfg. Co'. However, is there a possibility that this also could be a Standard Light (California)? According to the PLC, Standard preceeded San Diego a few years, but the lantern of this kind look similar on both, even if the illustration of the Standard in Neil's catalogue seems to miss the little wing nut on the collar. @Mackburner
Very good Tony. Your Standard also miss the little wing nut that the lantern of this topic, and other San Diego lanterns seems to have. I wonder what that is for. Hardly a cleaning device, but perhaps a little valve to get some gasoline upp to a preheater cup? Some gasoline lamps could use some preheating, and it looks like there is a little thing that could go for a preheting cup on this lantern.
It's a valve to supply pre heat fuel to the shroud/cup over the lower generator. I am not sure if it also suppies air with the fuel but since I have one and the PLC just says fuel I doubt it. Mind you it's a long time since I looked at it and I can't remember. These lanterns usually have a stamp in the base with the company name and I would expect this two control type to be San Diego not Standard. ::Neil::
Thanks Dennis it looks a bit rusty on the base May have had a stamp but it could have rusted away ? Does it hold pressure ? I sent you a private message too
