This interesting Tilley haul came my way today... All from the same family Croft and well used. Bit of a mix and match lot, though the basics of some nice lamps. Happy bunny today!
Lots of good bits to work with Stevie and fun, of course, looking out for the missing parts. Nice haul.
@Jean J Finding a hood for the early porkie lantern is going to be fun! Don’t suppose you e got one squirrelled away Jean?
Just had a look Stevie and I do have one. Enamel top bit not too good but you could always get a repro one. Will I add it to your growing pile?
Thanks all for your comments. I think this must be my first haul that doesn’t include lamps I don’t want, no rusty X246B or incomplete wickies!
Hello Stevie, the TL-13 tank was originally highly polished and lacquered so it should restore well, it should have an XN., control cock. BigStevie
@JEFF JOHNSON I’ve got a late type XN control cock, with a screw on knob. Would this be correct for my TL-13 tank?
@BigStevie , I have the same pork pie with the brown hood, as I found it, I have cleaned it up, maybe a mix match with parts on hand, but I’m sure the fellas will have more information on them
The last variation of the Tilley X246 “Pork Pie” had the brown enamelled hood as seen on your lantern, @BigStevie (~1949). Cheers Tony
Thanks all for the info. I felt sure the brown hood was wrong, just doesn’t sit right in every sense. I’ve no idea which version this lamp is, though it’s been suggested it’s a second version?
After making a silly error with my first comment about the the hood (because I didn’t check the cage) I’ll re-enter the fray (with apologies for my original error)… You have the long bail (handle) on the first version of the cage on the “Pork Pie” X246. This is listed in Neil’s Pressure Lamp Catalogue as the second variation of the X246. Cheers Tony
