I purchased a lantern from a forum member at the start of August.

He has had issues getting to the post office since the 31st August and ceased communications since that date. I have sent messages but no response despite being seen on the site since.

I would like the lantern rather than a refund, if anyone is able to assist as an intermediary to collect it and ship it over to me I would cover their costs.

PM if you are able to assist and I will try and contact him again, alternatively I can send his address and phone number and you could try to contact him?

    Any assistance gratefully received.
    Alec.

@LanternTom well perhaps you can answer for yourself on the Open Forum?
10 Days since my last PM and seven since I posted here, yet you attend the site daily and must have seen my messages.

I still want the Primus 1050 and have had offers of help in the neighbouring state, no-one close to Hebron however.

If you would be prepared to ship to a Forum Member in Illinois, they may be willing to send over to the UK for me? At least it would be a step closer.

    Regards,
    Alec.

    Stovies and Lampies BEWARE!

    Uncontactable and unresponsive.

@LanternTom Thomas Reis of Hebron Indiana has stolen $200 from me and has kept the dismantled Primus 1050 that we dealt on.

People were willing to collect, or meet him half way, or even if he would send it over to Illinois (It was already packaged up for sending to the UK apparently), everything I and helpful forum members could do to facilitate the shipping. But if he is unwilling to communicate, I can't expect a forum member to drive 100 miles to knock on his door.

Not the kind of attitude or expectations I would have of a General Manager in the Steel Industry.

Be aware any prospective purchasers of the Lantern, and anyone looking to buy anything else off him for that matter!

@Rangie , Alec, sorry to read your story.
Reminds me again on my swap issue with a Swedish forum member. Agreed on a swap, send my part of the deal and then the escusses came; busy week, hospital, holiday in Finland. Almost a year has passed now, no responses. Although he visists this forum, so he has internet and is still alive, which is good off coarse.

I wonder if we are the only two people who have bad experiences.
    I do hope so.

Not quite the same scenario Alec but I once sent a lamp to the wrong person (in a different country), when I realised my mistake got in touch with him. He admitted to having the lamp and I then passed it on to eBay to sort it out. Never heard anything back, didn’t get the lamp back and had to refund original buyer around £200. What a sickener.

I hope you two are able to get this sorted out.
I sold LanternTom some stuff a while ago and he sent the money before I posted the items. All went ok that time.

@LanternTom Tom, 5 months of messing around and complete silence since 31st August? What would you call it?

Postal issue clarified on August 25th.

We all live very busy lives, I too work in Industry.

I have no hesitation in calling someone out. Be open, communicative and transparent if you don't like it.
I am the fairest, most patient person you can meet, but if someone mucks me around, watch out!

Make good on the deal or a full refund please. Ideally I would like the Lantern.
    Alec.

p.s. I decided not to pull the trigger on either of two other 1050s as I thought I had this one in the bag.

Due to a mention on the CCF HERE I thought I would update this post.

The Lantern was sent, it arrived with missing (globe) and incorrect (vapouriser) parts.
    • The vapouriser was subsequently found and sent over.
    • The globe, he changed the story and said it must have been a Coleman globe that was on the lamp for the photos, so I guess that was never meant to be included? Not cool [-X

In disgust, I conceded the deal was done. Am I happy? Not really, I haven't made a start at the lantern yet, but once I make peace with it I'll make a start on it. The 1051 is in the queue ahead of it. It's slightly galling in that I turned down two other 1050s closer to me during the ongoing deal.

So there you have it, Caveat Emptor. If in any doubt, get a detailed list of the items being sent, along with photos. That way any issues can be ironed out before the box is sealed and sent.

    Alec.

    @Rangie

Was that paid by bank transfer? i have had to stop paying that way as on a few occasions the sellers never sent the items or refunded the money (luckily not large amounts) so it is only payments by Paypal now, sadly i have not been able to buy quite a few items where sellers didn't have a Paypal account/wouldn't accept a Paypal payment, very recently i missed a nice Aladdin Blue Flame series 8 heater because of it.
