o.k. here is my first post picked up a nice red 200A 1975 model. if i can figure out how to load correct size images i'll post a picture of the lamp. it has a broken globe. it was pretty dirty, but i've cleaned it up and waxed it. it holds pressure and seems to be in good working order. as soon as i find a replacement globe i'll mount a mantle and fire it up. well i'm happy to be on the forum and i can say it is about time. i've been working on old Coleman stoves and lanterns basically working blind as i really have just not studied much about these great tools i'm learning fast, thanks to the forums anyway glad to be here buzz
Buzz Hi an welcome. You don't need a globe to fire it up. In fact it may even work better without. When I am fettling a new lamp I nearly always fire up without glass for the first burn. Easier to pre heat with a blow torch that way and you don't risk damaging a globe if it goes pear shaped. ::Neil::
yep, thought about just adding the mantle a giving her a light. just back from a great camping/fishing trip with my daughter and her friends. the old 200A would have been a nice addition to kit buzz
here is the 200A broken globe , cleaned up considerably will install a mantle this evening and fire her up buzz
Really in MUCH better condition than my 200A! Mine was a barn lantern that I picked up at auction, cleaned up, and put in my barn! They are easily converted to burn kerosene if you're inclined.
been reading about it, the kerosene conversion. don't know if i would benefit from a kerosene refit. buzz
CF is abundant and affordable here in the States, but kerosene is a lot cheaper. I confess that I use my CF version much more often.. I guess that I just like the novelty of having the kerosene version. For what it's worth, the kerosene version does appear to be a bit brighter...
You're welcome Buzz! You do this easily yourself when you are uploading the images to the site. Once they are up, you click "Fullsize" (or "Thumbnail" if you prefer and if you're in a reference section where both options are available) where you want the image to pop up in the text. The code for it will pe placed where your marker is in your input field.
after checking fleabay, i see an example for sale is a Kerosene lantern? is this correct? as i've been using CF in mine. this would be awesome if these old girls burned Kero instead of CF. thanks for your reply all good buzz
are the old blue Sears lanterns Kerosene burners? hope so. i like using Kerosene. would be great to have the option. thanks for your reply buzz
No they are not kero burners. They want naphtha which means Coleman Fuel. They may run on kero but that will clog the generators with carbon and in any case the lamps may not perform well on the heavier fuel. ::Neil::
i believe you are correct. i think the auction seller only assumed a pressure lantern probably runs on Kero fuel. thanks for your reply buzz
