I've seen a Tilley lantern glass advertised today its frosted almost all the way around and there is about 1 1/2" which is clear. Anyone tell me which lantern this is for it looks like the normal glass that fits a standard Tilley.
Hi it's moe than likely a gas shade there is a lot of shades with the same size fitter that will fit a Tilley and run fine but never standard on a Tilley Kenny..
You have to be careful with gas globes. Tilley table lamp galleries were made to be the same size as Edwardian gas fittings. Not surprising really as Tilley were a gas company long before they got into paraffin. Trouble is this gallery size was also used for retro looking electric lamps in the 1930s and later so there are a lot of odd looking globes out there. Not all will stand the heat. If it is heavy glass then it will not survive the heat. Some of the frosted types are Pyrex and will work OK. Hard call to be sure and it requires experience of several breakages before you understand what works and what don't. ::Neil::
Went and took a picture it's the same dimensions as a standard Tilley lantern glob as shown in the second pic.
MMMMMM , could be a special 8) , diffused light around the sides & possibly a direct light observation window for the mantle , i just picked up a diffused lamp globe for a tilley but have still got to try it out Best regards Stu .
Could be off a Bullfinch gas handlanp as they take a Tilley glass. I've seen similar designed glasses/lens on electric inspection lamps with clear section in frosted finish. Is it marked ? Al
