What are the cages finished with? A few are nickel plated but most are not. Is it cadmium plating or what?
I agree with Martin, all manner of finishes have been used on the globe/chimney cages were used. I tend to use a heat resisting rattle can paint, trying to match the original finish, when I restore the finish when fettling a lantern. Cheers Pete
Hi @Michael Brewster As folks have said there are many different finishes out there Were you thinking of a specific lantern at all? I remember discovering that Tilley lantern cages had first been ‘copper washed’ before painting.. in the same way welding wire or weld mesh (or similar) has a copper wash to help with rust prevention Best regards pb
