    Hi All
    I am a little puzzled :-k
I need to order a kit of seals for this lamp which is claimed to be a Bialaddin 305
I had a look on the lamps gallery and saw my lamp does'nt looks like the others 305
it Seems to be a mix between Bialaddin and Vapalux
I am pretty sure this is not a "bitza" because i own two of those (the second is a 400F produced in France,
same lamp, but the filling knob which is smaller)
Could it be a special mounting for France ?

    and what kind of kit must i order ? 2022-01-26 16.40.42.jpg 2022-01-26 16.40.57.jpg

It's a Bialaddin so the parts will be the same for the older brass cage 305 as well as the alloy type you have. The 400F is different and not a Bialaddin but Bi-Aladdin and sold by Aladdin Paris. Some of the parts may be compatible but I am not sure just how much of the 400F was made in France or if they bought some from Aladdin UK. Certainly the filler cap and tank are French made so possibly the Valves, burners and pump were as well. ::Neil::

    Thank you Neil
I will order the older 305 type of seals

From what I can see, the only differences between this 305 and the 400F are :
    the filling cap,
the knob of the needle control controller (black or green, and different shape)
All other parts are strictly identical and interchangeable (though the French reservoir is stamped)
Hood, burner, cage and so on

That does not say where these pieces have been produced, obviously

The tank profile is different so I am sure that and it's filler cap are French made. It's been a few years since I looked at my 400F but I agree all the other parts looked like W&B product. ::Neil::

Ross is normally pretty good but you could try Julian Shaw. The single service kit is a bit more expensive than Fettlebox but the tin with 10 sets is a pretty good deal.

I have an email from Thursday I didn't catch until I got home on Sunday, same day as I received your 2nd email - responded to then. I can't find any earlier missed emails. I can confirm your order has come through today & is in progress. Apologies & many thanks.

    Hi Michel.
You can find genuine Vapalux mantles on ebay - these are pre-tied or you can use any similar sized mantles that are open at both ends. I have used the Julian Shaw ones on ebay (he marks them as Tilley mantles) - the "extra bright" are thorium, but he also stocks non thorium ones. I did try the DT-140 peerless mantles but they are quite a rigid tube and did not seem to form as well as the flexible ones.

    Very nice looking lantern !

    Thanks @Fireexit1
The one I used is here :

but the result is disappointing. The mantle is reduced to a ball of just 4 cm in diameter
    I will see at Juliand
the Tilley's mantles can't fit because the vapalux burner is bigger
    Am I right ?

If it did not fill to the full size it may be that the pressure was too low or the mixture is too rich. However 4cm is not bad - can you put a picture of it not alight for us to see ?
The Juliands ones are not tied - so you tie them on - this way they will fit the Tilley and the Vapalux.

I do not think more pressure can enlarge the size of the mantle
The lamp has been running for 3 hours with 30/40 pump strokes
the mantle is very brilliant but very small

    Hi Michel
No I didn’t mean about enlarging a mantle but the proper working pressure will need a lot more pumps than that and perhaps will help with illuminating??
Get that thumb working.. it has to be worth a try?
    Thanks

    @podbros
I had understood, I was just joking
i tried to pump more, but the result is identical
the generator is a new one, he can't evacuate more gas
here is a picture of the mantle, ridiculous in size, bright but very small

Yes that is smaller than it should be. I have found that low pressure when first using new mantle "burning in" - it can end up smaller. So can too rich a mixture but yours looks OK. It might have just been a bad mantle ?

    Hi @Michel
Yes i saw the smiley face.. i was also trying to lighten things.. no matter ;-)

Hmm.. that is an exceptionally small mantle .. commiserations :/

I have heard that there are some vintage mantles that are still to be seen made by ‘Veritas’ , and that they work well?
There may be other double ties makes that will work well?
If the juliands are double tied I would try those too?
Good luck and please let us know how you get on :thumbup:
