I normally seal that thread with copper slip. Probably not necessary but makes me feel more confident ::Neil::
Hi all, Sharing what happens when you don’t read these very useful forum threads until it’s too late. Read first, fettle later. Not sure what to do now.
Is the end of the pinion loose so that it can be pulled out with some long nosed pliers? Or maybe pull the cleaning needle rod out as it rotates the pinion by itself. Otherwise it's a bit of a problem as this fitting was soldered into the tank before the base plate was fitted. Maybe some gentle heat below the melting point of solder could help. These shafts have a habit of seizing when they have been standing for a long time. You need lots of penetrating oil and patience with these.
Thanks Nils, glad I waited for advice before trying to remove the fitting. I’ll get to work on it slowly and see what can be done.
