Hello all this is the second part to Tilley X246 Bail Restoration. Well I knew Michael was going to be on holidays, so for the previous week or so I got as much of the brass polishing done for my Tilley's and a Kayen table lamp as possible, I knew Michael was going to be spray painting after he got back from camping. Well the weather was very nice and in the high 20 while he was away, which is great for spray painting, but as he returned from camping the weather dropped to under 15 degrees and we got 3 straight days of rain. He said dont worry at the end of the week the weather will change as we were told by the weather forecasters, and the rain stopped but the temperature stayed cold. Well what to do now? So we got out the trusty Tilley R55 Heater Lamp and started to heat the shed all seemed good the etch primer went on like a dream all good so far right? Now time for the ceramic undercoat opps runs everywhere not looking good at the moment, what can we do? Then Michael comes up with the idea lets try and heat the founts up and see what happens, top idea the next fount comes up like a dream cool we are on the right track. End of day one all founts are in ceramic undercoat and the Tilley TL136 has been painted in colour, but still needs a clear top coat with high temperature chemical resistant paint. We are very happy so far just one fount requiring attention. So here is the photos for the days work. Day two: Well at least the sun was out this time and the shed was alot warmer to start with. Why dont we try the same process, but the weather was still under 15 degrees. Michael was worried about the metallic dropping out because of the clod weather. I said why not try the steel fount first as this will be the easiest to remove the paint if we have to start again, but only if you want too or we can wait until next summer. Michael decided this time he would heat the founts before hand as with the first day and then apply half the amount of paint, then put the founts back in the oven for another 8 minutes at 90 degrees, then apply the rest of the paint, lets try that out and see what happens as we do this at his work. Bingo this worked like a treat so here are the final photos. I still have to finish off the polishing on the Tilley TL136. Thanks for looking.

Thank you for your comments, we are glad you enjoyed our thread. I must say without Michael I wouldn't be able to spray paint like him and would have given up repainting my lamps a long time ago.
Up in the Highlands I can only spray paint when the air temperature and moisture levels get better during the summer months. Fine fettling once again!
