    Hi guys

I am new to this forum and signed up because a friend of mine wanted to throw away this Optimus 1200 pressure lamp. One look at it was enough for me to ask him if i could have it. I was wondering how much such a lamp is worth.

Wow, that’s some Optimus! Takes paraffin, right? Could use a bit of polishing but it seems like it’s in great state

Site policy is to give no valuations.
But to get it for free is wonderful!!

This 1200 is actually better working than the brass version. The Optimus logo is on the preassure metre in the lid.
It is without quickheater like a Optimus 200 type lantern.

Good luck with it, don’t sell!

    Regards from Sweden

It looks like someone had problems lighting it then put it away. It is a nice example and would clean up very well. This variation is from the late 1960s or early 70s.

No valuations here but to an enthusiast, its worth more than what money could buy.

Does someone know where I could find information on how to properly clean and light it?

Valuation, especially since COVID is virtually impossible apart from not being policy on CPL.

That said, that is a beautiful lantern and quite honestly, it doesn't need much cosmetic work if any! Why would someone throw something so decorative away? It runs on paraffin/kerosene and the renewable parts like seals, jets and pricker needles are readily available. If you like tinkering and getting things running again, it'll give hours of pleasure, if not it's a beautiful thing to have on display! If you decide to get it running again, come back and post some photos as we'd all love to see your progress.

You are here. in this site there are many stories and documents to help you. 1st step is to understand how it works. Then my personal preference is to replace seals and other parts that fail with age. You can always come back here and ask questions if you have specific issues - and people here are always happy to help.

How is Rotterdam these days ? - I have not been for a long time, I remember the white house with fondness..

I started fiddling around with a couple of old Tilleys about 5 years ago and everything I now know about fixing up Coleman's, Tilleys, Petromax, Veritas, Bialaddins etc has been learned from this amazing forum! Not only that, but I've made some very good friends here in the UK and around the world!

Always a pitty that people only register to fish for a price to make a few bucks.
The lantern is already on the Dutch market for sale.
I would say: topic may be closed.

I do not regret registering and really enjoy reading people’s reactions. To be honest I did not know anything about pressure lamps. Im sure WimVe you had to learn about them too at some point.

Yes I learned and still learn from fellow collectors.
You get a lantern from a friend, ask here what it is worth, just to sell, not to learn about lanterns. Off coarse I can be complete wrong (I hope).

Is there a good site where I could buy renewable parts for this model?

Here is a good place : Servicesats till Optimus 1200
You will also need 250 CP mantles, Paraffin (kerosine) and some denatured alcohol to pre-heat with. I am sure Wim will tell you the correct Dutch fuel names.
