Happen to have a valve off a stress cracked AGM lantern, shaft has a good knob, will the nuts off both shafts unscrew so I can transplant the good knob onto an old AGM 335 lantern? The knob will not fit on the right hand shaft, so either need to machine a stepped area on it or move the nut from the left hand shaft to the shorter shaft. Follow? Duane
Hi Duane Sorry but the way the picture is makes it hard to see ‘left @right’ If it’s possible to save or adapt one then I would try the other one first and if things don’t go as planned then you can machine or file the ‘step’ onto the one that you still have? I would also heat the nut beforehand to break any thread lock? I always heat delicate stuff out of direct sunlight to watch for colour changes Good luck with it Regards
The lower shaft is original, the knob I need came off the upper shaft which has the nut I need, have done a heat and quench, but have not retried to unscrew the nut from the upper shaft which you can see has a larger diameter shaft, the end of the shafts must be machined to same diameters though as they measure out to same dimensions. Got the nuts off, thank you. Press fits, although the longer shaft had splines and the nut from it is loose on my original shaft, so may try cleaning all involved parts and solder. Duane
Success after numerous avenues of what to do and unsuccessful attempts to solder. Finally some silver solder(brazing?) enabled me to tin the shaft, then I held the donor nut and kept tapping while applying heat until I got it in place, a little crooked, not bad, but is holding better than attempts to use regular solder.
