I got this tank from the auction site ,it piqued my interest, first going by the sellers pictures I thought it might have been a steel tank by the way the paint has faded. It is dated 11/58 xa and is all brass . I'm not 100% sure about the colour it looks factory and when looking though the library I noticed some SDR waterworks works models can any members confirm what I have ? Thanks marten
I believe that the X246 that weren't exported from the UK were Gold. If they were exported then they would be spectrum plated. I hope that helps you out, if I am incorrect then someone will correct me.
Thanks buggerlugs for the reply . There is no sign of speculum anywhere not even under the base . I have just given it a quick but gentle rubbing with some wet and dry and I think theres a little gold paint underneath it all unless it's the brass showing through ? Will need to get my other pair of glasses on hahaha Thanks marten
But there were exceptions. This lantern came to me via the brother of the man who had owned it whilst putting up power lines in Africa (south of the equator). The enamelled hood and frame are the same colour as the Dutch waterworks lanterns and although the undated tank is bare brass, I believe it was once painted the same colour.
