    This Tilley KL80 was found in Australia - they are not very common here.

    It is gold painted, with a GF control cock, and a gallery with the springs on the inside. It came a reflector, a Tilley G7 vitreosil globe, and upper and lower insect screens. It did not have the heat/smoke deflector, so I made my own using the top cap from an Aladdin 1A hood.

    This globe must have been subject to extreme hot gas exposure as these scorch marks were not able to be polished out. Vitreosil is virtually indestructible to heat!

    The right hand nut on the harp is original. The left hand one was missing.

    The reflector came with the lamp, but was suffering from rust, so I repainted it.

    I cleaned the lamp and harp with car polish as I wanted to preserve as much of the original paint as possible. I am quite pleased with the result.

    The vapouriser on the lamp had an enlarged jet, so I replace it with a new old stock 169 vapouriser.

    Enlarged jet.

    I'm very pleased with this lamp, and glad I was able to find one in Australia.

    What a great job you’ve made Tony, especially of the reflector. How did you get all the rust off and what paint did you use?

    @Jean J

    I used electrolysis to remove the rust. The original paint came off as well.

    I repainted with a Duplicolor white, after using an etch primer - both available in spray cans from motor vehicle shops.

    Cheers

    Looks fantastic mate, you did an excellent job.
    I was wondering did it come from Tyabb by any chance?

    Well fettled Tony, looking good! The heat deflector doesn’t look out of place, a nice touch!
