I picked this Veritas 350 up on market place over the summer and it fired up on the 20 year old fuel and mantle. My cleaning however caused a couple of problems. The first being that the burned mesh screen crumbled and then I managed to damage the very thin nickel when trying to clean around the decal, still not sure how I took off so much before I noticed. I posted about those issues in the fettling forum and am still really pleased with my first attempt at nickel brush plating. Other than that it was a straightforward clean and service. I am finding that the more I save, the more sympathetic my restorations have become. This 350 now sits well alongside the Superb in my collection. The Veritas really do have character!
That's exactly what I find. I've learned so many new skills from repairing old lanterns which is very satisfying! I've found Veritas lanterns to be very well made and easy to use. Not so long ago, these wonderful lamps were disparaged and got a lot of bad press but thankfully no longer. The only downside is the lack of available spares, but there are ways round this if you're resourceful and prepared to get your hands dirty.
Another Veritas is well saved, and as aptly remarked they are lamps of character. Nice collection btw Matthias
