As well as lamps & stoves I also collect blowtorches / blowlamps. My recent purchase, a UK export Butler 200K seems to have had some water ingress which had badly affected the pump & nrv. The pump arrangement is similar to a Tilley type with the nrv in the pump. I've managed to get a spare pip fitted but the spring is rotten. I've bodged a replacement from a pen but it's not perfect.

And most oddly, there is some fibrous material in the tank - I thought it was Brasso / Duraglit wadding but it seems stuck. Do I pull it out or leave it - I can't think why a pressure burner would need any kind of wick inside? You may know better than I ...

Can anyone point me to a UK source of spares for Butler blow torches please? - they also made torches for Coleman.

    Paul.

Though not too familiar with such items, I seem to recall being told that petrol blowlamps / blowtorches usually had a cotton (?) wick in the fuel tube which as far as I know, acted as both a filter and along with pressure, a means of controlling the rate of fuel flow, though I'm not 100 % sure about the latter. Either way, if the wadding appears to be attached to the fuel tube, I'd certainly not discard it. It may be "stuck" because of varnish-like fuel residue, so perhaps you could try using a solvent such as acetone to loosen it.

Thank you - The Butler lamps had kero as an optional fuel so not surprising that it has petrol lamp features like the wick. If anyone has any hands-on experience with Butler blow lamps I need to find out how the burner head is supposed to seal onto the riser tube. Mine has to be screwed to almost 90 deg of the correct position before it will seal adequately.

Just found this cross-section drawing. The part labelled "nipple" on mine is a plain threaded riser tube but appears to be original. blow-torch-cross-section.jpg

@Paraffinhead In pipe terminology a short piece of pipe 24" or less plain inside and threaded outside at both ends is called a nipple.

Thanks Reese, every day is a school day :)

I've just bought another 200 K on eBay - it's g0t a badly dinged tank so will be a parts donor.

My understanding is the k (200k) refers to the blow lamp can be used for petrol or paraffin.
