I'm going to regret this, but has anyone written down or otherwise collected thread specifications used by different lantern manufacturers? If not, I'll do it. At least it'll keep me off the streets this winter! So, if anyone can give me any data I'll compile a spreadsheet and yada yada yada... you all know how this works. @WimVe would you be interested in collaborating again?
For starters- Bialaddin/Vapalux: Bolts joining "cap" to hood on brass hood lanterns are 2 BA with oversize 3/8" A/F nuts. Air buttons and E41 gallery nuts are 7/16"X26 BSB, inner thread on the air tubes appears to be custom 0.400"X36 presumably Whitworth form. Mantle support is 9/16" BSB. Bail nuts are 1BA. Screws holding the frame together on 305 and late 300X are 5BA (rather than the 6BA I expected!),frame retaining screws are 2BA . Vapourizer thread is 5/16" BSB. Pricker control to tank is 1/2" BSB (same as many Tilleys). Gland nut appears to be another oddball, possibly 0.390"X36 . Screw on control knobs are 2BA, the retaining screw for push on ones is 6BA. Screw in fuel pickups are 5/16"X32, probably ME. Pump tube is 3/4"X32, again probably Whitworth form. Pump rod is threaded 3BA for the leather retaining nut; on post war examples the nut is oversized A/F to fit a 2BA socket External NRV thread is 3/8" BSB, the internal thread holding it together is 1/4" BSB. 1" filler cap is threaded 1" BSB (who'd a thought it...), 1 1/4" filler cap is threaded... 1 5/16" BSB (bet you didn't see that coming!). Air release screw is 1BA. I don't have sizes for the burner dome, the mixer tube (haven't taken a burner that far apart yet) or the 320 frame fixing nut (as I don't have a 320).
This will be a heck of a project for you Colin so many oddball threads out there Good luck with it tho Cheers pete
Colin thanks for suggesting and taking on this. Should be an excellent reference for everyone. Greatly appreciated
It certainly is but with everyone's help and input, its definitely doable. Between us all, we have a huge amount of knowledge, it just needs to be collated and presented in a useful way.
