Hi all just received my latest fettle project and could do with some information on it's date etc .evening star on the font and the frame and burners etc look like akron.
A fine fettling project. This link shows relevant information. https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/1929-evening-star-lamps.5176/
Hi, yes a great find, i am quite interested in your lantern, the top and most of the lantern looks like my first model Akron, but it does not resemble my Evening Star lantern except for the burner assembly, would love to hear from others on the differences, enjoy the fettle
Yes early ES and Kildark lanterns had Akron burners and quite possibly Akron globe cages and vents as well. This one is likely from about 1921-1922 because after then the lamps had English made burners and generators. Nice find. ::Neil::
Thanks Neil, so it is an evening star, I've cleaned it up and had it working without mantles ,which have just arrived this morning, l noticed one burner is stronger than the other. do you know if there is a way two adjust them before I put the mantles on.
Not really adjustable. The mixer head and mantle tubes are sort of low pressure so any variation in the polish/clean of the tubes or differences in the mantle cap gauze will cause a variation in the burn of each mantle. So all you can do is make sure the inner parts are squeaky clean and the cap gauze isn’t damaged or partially clogged more in one than the other. ::Neil::
