I aquired this lantern, noticing ti was different, so ive cleaned it up, usual old dust, fade, patina, i have a few of these but this one was calling out to be saved and bought back into service, After i had carefully disassembled the lantern, i could see it was an army green colour, tank faded, collar rusted, hood rusted, has original bail and no globe, it still had kero in it. It has an AGM burner air mix, im not to familiar with these but soon will be. The lantern came apart easy enough, except for the crowling on the air burner, the other screws that held the combustion chamber and shield on top did not want to budge, so i left them as is, if its not broken dont play with it., the cowling did budge after a soak in vinegar, wd40, evapo rust. Then the heat and quench technique, it did come apart, i cleaned and blasted it clean, look 100%better. It had a broken needl pricker and generator jet blocked solid, i replaced it with another i had, I noted that the ecentric block is round and the rack goes 360°unlike others that have it only on one face of the block The fuel cap had a fibre type seal, i removed and binned it, new viton seal. I washed everything in hot soapy water and kitchen scourer, things start to swow their real colour and characteristics. The hood and bail i soaked in evapo-rust for a few days with a regular brass brushing until the rust was gone. Other parts cleaned up with dremele brush, the collar needed to be blasted clean and the cage base as they were had to clean up, i sprayed them with ultra high temd paint, Aluminium, they look shiny and neat I left the tank and hood original. It passed the water test, no leaks But with new fuel and under pressure, it lit up but leaked. New seals and then away it goes My very cool Handi Swift Lite v2. (It is running rich). Ill trouble shoot it later.i would like to thank Graham and Vic for you advice and all you fellas Enjoy
Another top job Darryl, a real transformation. Looking cool for leaving the tank alone and simply preserving what was there. Well done. James
Nice job, Darryl. When I get around to fettling my beaten up old Handi, I’ll probably have some questions for you. Cheers Tony
