Hi, Fred Kunz is not responding and apparently there is a new kid on the block called Rob (something). I tried to e-mail him with zero success. Is it impossible to get micas nowadays? /Henrik
I have also failed on both counts recently. Their emails may be full though? I'm not sure what the answer is unless you have a go at DIY. Alec.
Fred is either very busy or really slowing on production lately. That's as far as I'm aware of. It might be better that you get through the phone to him and tell him exactly what you're looking for. @AussiePete might know the number. Otherwise, you might really need to make them yourself using some transparent mica sheets if they're available.
As far as I know Fred isn’t replying emails only phone calls. Rob Butts in the other hand it’s on FB, phone, email and almost every social media.
@Henrik , hi there. You could make one your self if you have the skills set. I taught my self how to make them. Some simple self made tools. Mica is costly, I use .25mm brass shim, easy to fold cut with scissors etc. here’s one I made for a Nulite M5 It may not look professionally made but to does look cool
I tried to make a mica shade before and it is very hard. Problem is trying to bend the mica, it has to be sliced very thin or it will break.
I thought @Erik Leger had made a photo documentary of Fred Kuntz his work. "You make" the globes in a flat position and only when to be used you shape and bend it in a tube.
Wim, no, it was not me. I think Erwin Schaefer took some photos at Fred's workshop several years ago. Fred has still the ad in the "Coleman Light" so I think he still does makes mica globes. E-mails may take a while, you better call him. Erik
