I came across a rare find here in Canada, what I believe is an FL6 in restorable shape for $100. I took it apart this afternoon to get an idea of what I will need to get it running again, only major issues are the bottom of the font is rotted and the vaporizer is shot. The glass, burner and pump are all in good condition; if fact the leather looks brand new. I'm not sure what year it was made, I did notice the original color was blue.
It’s made from 1938 onwards, but the brass identification plate puts in early in production. These plates were replaced by gold transfers (decals). Blue is not a usual colour. All the early FL6s I’ve seen were black. Great lamps to have. Cheers Tony
I plan on replacing it, just not sure how I want to make the new base plate. If I'm ambitious I might make a hydroform mold if not I will turn one out on the lathe. Tomorrow I will remove the old one and see what gauge it is and what I have for material.
