    I picked this up a while ago as it looked strange. Appears to have been modified by an earlier owner and to quite a good standard I might add.

    Seems rather odd since the Tilley EX4 was even advertised as a table lamp if you detached the bail.

    Quite a tall lantern now. Any thoughts why they may have done this?

    Did that hood come with the lamp originally? What is the colour of the enamel inside?

    An interesting find and I suppose that a previous owner wanted a tall table lamp and so he rigged that tank with what he had and it would have been cheaper than buying a table lamp.
    Over the years I have found a variety of modified pressure products here in Shetland, the power was slow to arrive in the more remote areas and folk needed light, so they had to find ways of keeping their lamps etc., going with whatever spares were available.

    Interesting, I can't say I have seen one before.
    Iain, is the column brass or steel?

    @Tony Press @ROBBO55

    The hood was purchased separately as NOS from an English supplier and is black inside. Only the pump and air release came with it. The control cock is from my box of spares.

    I checked and the column is non-magnetic, so despite looks I presume brass.
