This photo was taken in 1906 and it shows an ironmongers shop in Lerwick Shetland.

This ironmongers was still going strong in the 1970s, Jeff.

Hello Ray, they were great shops, the interiors were basic by modern standards, but they carried and impressive range of stock.

Hello Stephan, yes, that would be great, if only I had a Tardis.

Perhaps you could find some similar photos from your country.

Hopefully, other folk will add to this topic, Jeff.

Fantastic photos Jeff there are still a few hardware/ironmonger stores around, which i love looking around.even though they are no longer as good as the one's in your pics, but they still sell some traditional tools etc we could never buy in the likes of B&Q and wicks etc and in many case's far cheaper.
In these shops you can buy nails screws bolts etc loose reraly cheap, either singley or by weight than paying a couple pounds for a few in a blister pack.
And some if not most of these old type ironmongers that are still around sell paraffin loose for us it is much cheaper

That's good to hear, but there are none left in Shetland.

Hello Jean, perhaps you could find some images of old ironmongers shops in Aberdeenshire, there must have been several, Jeff.
