Bitten by the bug. I have a Coleman 335, everything is good above the fount but the tank itself is rusted and has pin-holes. I do, however, have a bunch of fire extinguisher bodies and a workshop.... Can anyone advise the thread used on the valve to fount connection?
If the fitting is anything like the kero version (339) it'll be 3/8" diameter but I don't know the thread count. Can't you measure the exising valve ?
Hi Henry - thanks for the reply. Thinking about it now, I can cut the existing fittings including the vale union, pump, and filler out of the rusted fount (its rotten around its base seam) and braze them into a new tank. Saves a lot of faffing about. Thanks for making me think!
If you remove the frame/burner assembly, collar and valve wheel you can hold the valve in a vice and unscrew the tank. You'll find that the valve and filler fittings will have collars as these would have been fitted from the inside before the base plate was put in place. The pump tube may not necessarily be copper brazed in place (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+coleman+lanterns+are+made the relevant part is between 3:30 and 3:58). It's possible that it's held in with solder.
It’s likely to be either a 1/8 NOT like Pancho said, and if not it will be a special Coleman pipe thread that can’t be bought anywhere…
