Who's up for our if it's anything like last years tropical festival of light in sunny Derbyshire bring your lamps stoves engines tractors just about anything really its on the first weekend in October which is the 5th 6th 7th It is on the Ashover show ground the web site is vintagefestivaloflight.org.uk its a great little show everybody welcome hope to see you there Stan
It's always tropical, Stan - though usually just a monsoon followed by a typhoon... Anyway, here's the link to save you all cutting and pasting:- Ashover Festival of Light
Ive sent my form in. I feel that i should have also entered one of my engines aswell. Oh well, i will just have to play with lamps all weekend. Looking forward to it. Nigel
Absolutely, definitely, positively, certainly, yes! There's a chap brings a 27 litre V12 Rolls Royce Meteor engine to the show so I think their definition of 'stationary engine' is pretty elastic...
Me and mick are off stan hope you ordered the good weather again Be good to see you there too nigel lets hope its dryer than newark!! pete
Hi Pete. Im looking forward to it. Im planning on taking one of my stationary engines to exibit aswell as as many lamps i can fit in. Just hope the engine section is close to the lampies.
I'll be there. I was planning on spending a few more days there but unfortunately I have prior arrangements on the Friday to go and find some more lamps. Oh well what can you do hey. Maybe next year. I got dorset booked up anyway so that should be good, might find some lamps so long as no one else here is going
Don't worry David, you didn't miss anything, unless you wanted another 10 rough x246b's. Mick and myself went, we were both a bit disappointed by the whole show....not what it used to be!!
Thanks, Ian. Yeah, I can easily do without another 10 R.A.F. X246Bs - they breed in my garage roofspace quicker than I can get rid of the damned things...
Len Gillings and myself have booked in again this year, and will be bringing stationary engines - driving dynamos naturally - as well as some pressure lamps. Expect to see the two small Petromaxes and their bigger brother, plus a few other goodies. The only spoiler could be the weather, if it's too wet the camper vans won't stand a chance of getting on site, so we're keeping our fingers crossed. Likewise for Dorset. There doesn't seem to be the sheer variety and number of lamps for sale there now as opposed to some years back. The chances of me finding another complete good condition self start X246 for a tenner seem to be pretty remote!
I'm just filling in my exhibitors form, it's not too late is it I don't know what the closing date for programmes/plaques at the bottom of the form is. I hope it's not i've been looking forward to this but just haven't got my @r5e into gear and sent off the form.
Best move your @r5e then Matt, I'm looking forward to seeing your fine display of lamps 8) 8) 8) Less the two VL1's of course
I shall be there Friday pm until Sunday. Not displaying as my poor collection does not warrant that, but again looking at everyone elses. I have never been to this meet before, so looking forward to it. See you all there - Steve.
Every thing is OK now. I sent an email and got a very quick reply back to say that it would be fine. So form was sent first class this morning and I will see you all there. Hopefully the weather will be as good as it has been this week.
That's good news then Matt !!! So your definitely going to Ashover for the weekend and your definitely leaving your lovely VL1's at home, so what's your home address Matt ???
Definitely going to Ashover (weather permitting) and the VL's will be in the bank vault, guarded by a three headed dragon and an army of mounted knights. Who's looking after your collection Ray?
Well at the moment the weather is looking promising, HERE Chesterfield seemed pretty close so that's why I went for that. Edit: Not if your going on Friday.
Famous last words:- chance of precipitation on Saturday and Sunday = 0%. That reminds me a bit of Michael Fish in 1987 - 'there'll be no hurricane tonight'! So we'll see what the weekend brings. Compo (with Norah Batty), Foggy and Clegg are arriving on Friday...
Friday still looks a bit dodgy but Saturday and Sunday not too bad. Only a 10% chance of some precip. Still not decided whether to bring the gazebo or the awning. The gazebo will allow me to bring my KL80's and IL33 and hang them up so I hope the weather doesn't turn. The awning is more water proof.
Well just back from a really good time at ashover lots of good lamps and good company with many members from this site attending for the first time good to see you all there and wont be the last from comments on the fair few pictures i snapped while wondering around cheers pete
Hi Jeff yes weather during day was great but soggy underfoot evenings were damp and cold tho nice and cosy in me van tho pete
Only at the bottom of the site and not really a problem - no standing water or wet mud and wellies weren't actually needed!
