Well now, if you've got random Tilley bits and pieces laying around they're bound to end up being used one way or another...

Now I know it works, I'll clean up the tank and give it a respray. The riser was made my me, the handle was disassembled and turned round and the globe is (I think) a veritas hurricane lamp glass.

@AussiePete , I think you've made something similar as well.

Nice lamp! Colin, would you mind explaining the riser tube construction?
    Thanks

The riser robe was made using a length of brass 3/4" rod that was turned on a lathe. The thread, both top and bottom is 1/2" BSB or 1/2 BSCY. I can't be more certain which thread type is used because they are so similar - both 26tpi, both 1/2 OD and in many cases they are interchangeable. The difference lies in the angle of the thread profile, BSB being 55° whereas BSCY is 60°. That 5° difference is so small you'd need some sophisticated equipment to detect. I've been told that Tilley often used BSCY so let's go with that. I drilled out the central hole running the length of the riser to 5mm which seems to work OK.

    Hope that helps.

I thought I'd add a cross sectional drawing of what I made. It doesn't follow exact technical drawing standards but you'll get the drift. I also omitted the cross hatching and the reduced section I added for aesthetic reasons.

Colin, thanks for your very kind and detailed response re riser tube construction.
You are a great asset to this forum. Now off to find the correct BSCY tap and die!

I've found Tracytools in Torquay very reliable and pretty good on price.

    https://www.tracytools.com/

Alternatively I have a spare 1/2 inch BSCY die that you could have. PM me and we can have a chat.

Oh, I've just noticed you live in Oz so there might me a better, more local source.

Nice build. I like it, I’m tipping that you’ll use this lamp a lot.

    Yes, I built something similar:

It’s my go to lamp in a power failure etc.

    Cheers
    Pete
