After the end of the production of pressure lamps in Altena/Germany, Petromax pressure lamps for the Bundeswehr were manufactured in Hipolito/Portugal from 1974. I have seen six vintages of this Portuguese Petromax 829B so far. 1974-1979. They differ from their predecessors from Germany as follows: 1. Only Germany is written on the tank. 2.There was a 4 digit number on the bottom of the pressure vessel. (The Bundeswehr lamps from Germany had no numbers on the underside of the pressure vessel. 3. The No. 122 centering plate is made of brass and is therefore non-magnetic. 4. The Petromax 829B from Portugal had a preheating bowl but no riser. 5. As usual with Hipolito, the mixing chamber was very solid and heavy. The following features apply only to the early Petromax from Portugal, 1974-early 1976. 1.Hood with recess for mixing tube screw. 2.Black material Petromax hand wheel. After the end of the production of these Petromax lamps for the Bundeswehr, Bundeswehr lamps of the Geniol brand were also manufactured by Hipolito. They were the same lamps, but labeled Geniol.

Seen these lanterns before, always thought they had a different hue of a coating when compared to their German made counterparts.
