I recently acquired a 200A that I decided to bring back to life. Lots of reading and YouTube videos later, I finished the restore. Few questions: After firing the lamp for the first time I noticed some sputtering, then after about 5 minutes of running smoothly it started smoking: Was it because of leftover water in the fount? I did not remove the packing from the generator prior to CA bath. Should I have? Regarding the spark igniter below, where can I obtain flints, will regular zippo flint work? Should there be a spring pushing the flint against the wheel? Will Zippo spring work as a substitute? Thank you all in advance M
The 200 lantern is pretty easy to work on, but the spark igniter either work or they don't and from my experience these igniters are almost useless. I have found what works best for me is a refillable butane torch lighter. My favorite lighter is the Soto refillable butane lighter. When rebuilding or restoring any lantern it is best to remove all of the parts from the lantern and when cleaning remove the packing from the generator/vaporizer. In most cases the control valve assembly will only need a partial dismantling. The valve stem packing or graphite packing is usually in good shape. There is a lot of very helpful information on this site along with many very helpful people so don't be afraid to ask questions. Cheers, Norman
