Unsure of Floundering Lamp

I searched around and found that it was for flounder, I'm pretty sure. Not being able to find any markings, I'm not sure of a make or model. I was told it looked like an AGM but I've found nothing that looks close. Maybe it's a homemade shade?

What do you guys think?

The flounder lights I'm used to seeing along the Gulf coast look like this. This particular one was apparently commercially made using replacement parts from Coleman. The homemade ones used a mixing bowl or an aluminum pie pan as a reflector. I've never seen one that shape, but that doesn't mean it isn't a flounder lamp. Certainly a homemade reflector though.

 

The tank etc., appear to be AGM., but the pressure valve looks to have been modified, the reflector is homemade, this link shows the AGM., pages in the gallery.

So.., I bought a basket case? I wonder, is there a more in depth listing of agm lamps? I'm having a hard time tracking this model fount down.

 

I actually like hybrid lamps and someone put a great deal of effort into making that one.

My best guess is that your lamp was originally an AGM., model 595 and it dates to around the mid 1920's and the pressure valve on yours is correct after all.

So if I were to attempt a pressure check and light up, what size mantles would run good on it? 21a, 111...

 

If it's an AGM I'd pressure check before wasting a pair of mantles.

 

My advice is as follows, close the shut off valve which is located at the top of the handle and tighten it's gland nut which is located behind the valve knob, then pump air into the tank and close the pressure valve and then submerge the lamp in water and watch for air bubbles, bubbles show leaks, do let us know how you get on and that's good advice from Reese, but it will probably use the same type of mantles as a Coleman CQ does.

 

Will wait for payday and order an external pump. I'll let you know how the pressure test goes..

 

You can use a bike pump with a plastic ball adaptor.

 

I've read about that here but don't have a bike pump either..

 

Ok, I've finally got this thing back on the bench.

Now I need a cap gasket but I'm still not sure if this is a 595 model and even if it was where would I find a gasket?

Does this look like a 595 filler cap?

 

You might get away with using an O Ring ?

I use them all the time on the Coleman equivalent cap. Somebody here suggested it so I can't take the credit
