Great stuff! Looks like you all had an excellent weekend. 8) Nice to see no swirled-out faces and a couple of names, too...
I still havn't downloaded the pictures from my camera, but they are probably similar to Jukka's. I think it was one of the better meetings we have had (at least for me) and I got to meet some collectors I had only written to before. Good to meet people for real. All in all a great time. I was surprised how well the Vests worked hanging outside. It was a bit temperamental to begin with, but settled down and ran well. No faces deleted but it looks like number plates have been deleted.
Great pictures Jukka, I had a lot of fun myself! Like you guys say, it's a nice thing to put faces to names so to speak. I'll be there again next year!
.Yes, I can see that he used a too short glass. You would expect it to be a bit sensitive when the vapouriser ball was exposed to the free air like that. I guess there wasn't any wind. Did he use one of those upright mantles (the smaller gaslight mantles alike), or was it perhaps just a soft mantle, decently shaped? So was there any talk about where the next years meeting should be held? It's never been held in western Sweden as far as I know. Bohuslän has some very nice campings...
Birger made these mantles himself, he uses a cheramic (?) top from mantles he bought from Fogas, when/if mantle breaks he reuses the cheramic part on a regular 500cp mantle, he also ties the mantle on the flamspreader ring, this makes mantle look very nice shape. I thin the cheramic part are the same that is sold on ebay with a soft upright mantle. ( MHP Lamp Soft Auto-Form Upright Mantle ) SL! Jukka
Looks like an enjoyable gathering good pic`s Very difficult to recognise some of these as not often seen in Australia thought I saw aladdins but were they radius, and with radius 119 is familiar Austramax 3/300 later type with pointer knob
It was a great meet! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Many thanks to all involved for organising a great weekend that was both relaxed & informative. I'd recommend the event to everyone & I certainly intend to attend more of the Swedish events in future. The sites chosen have cabins for rent so travelling light is possible for those flying in & like car-hire could be shared to keep the cost down. I'll post more when I get my pictures sorted.
The Radius 119 should look a lot like the Australian Aladdin because that is what they are. Radius made the Aladdin 12A (under licence?) as a direct copy of the first 119 version. There was an Austramax 3/300 there owned by Birger. It is one I swapped with him a couple of years ago. The new site is not usually chosen until February or March next year. With the number of people attending these days, maybe it should be a bit sooner. The most westerly campsites that have been used were at Säffle and Falköping.
Here's a few of my pics from the Vadstena Primus meet Being the first on the site on the Friday I decided to visit Vadstena before pitching my tent. The castle in Vadstena. 3 antique shops & 2 bookshops checked out but no finds. A pleasant town nonetheless! I was travelling light & preferred not to use a cabin so took my little Swedish Hilleberg Akto. I was expecting a small Korean hire car but got this Chinese/Swedish Volvo instead! I took a Trangia (which I can pronounce properly now!) with both alcohol burner & gas adapter not knowing which fuel would be easiest to find. As it turns out there was a cabinet full of Rod Sprit (alcohol) at the first petrol station I called in. A near mint Valmet Eräkeitin belonging to Jukka_t. Jukka very kindly gifted me an unusual Primus 330 which burns solid fuel tablets which I look forward to reporting on more in the Action Gallery on CCS in the near future. I think this old Radius range fitted with an industrial burner is also Jukka's. This did stirling work heating hot-dogs over the weekend. A view across the lake Vättern from the campsite. Johan demonstrates a delicate touch with the pliers getting hotdogs out of the tin. Joakim checking the hits on the webcam. Lamp adapter on a Radius 21. A Primus 330 can be seen on the balcony rail. A great old Comet No:6 c100 years old. This one is complete with a tin with fantastic graphics & all it's original paperwork. A real treat to see,
A blow-torch at full power guarding the old Comet! Free stoves at the Saturday swap-fest. Lars' old Primus 71 heating coffee with the assistance of a mini-pump. & his Veritas Superb. I was amazed to see one of these working so well! I'm sure a few British lampies would like to know this one's secret! Crayfish - this were being brought out of the lake by the bucket load! Johan & Lars do a fantastic job on their waffle stall. Think I put on a few pounds! On the Saturday I had a quick trip north to Motala. They have a motor museum there & had a display of old Jaguars outside.
Gotta be something to do with the nice little trolls they have up there! Great pics, Ross - looked like a great meet in a lovely place with excellent weather! We had a frost here in GL last night so it looks like the summer is gone - which day was it..?
Thanks Ross. Nice pictures. I'm glad you managed to see a bit of Vadstena too. It's a very nice town with surprisingly many sites of interest. Atleast if you're in to history. Did you also manage to squeeze in Vadstena Abbey? It's the motherhouse of the Bridgettine order (after Swedens only "real" catholic saint: St. Bridget). Don't be too sure about that! There are atleast three ways how people say Trangia here, and who can say which one is the correct? Many people even excludes any traces of the "g", saying "Trann-ya", which sounds like shit to me, but probably is considered correct for those who does it.
