Hello all I picked this up the other day, I thought I would post it in the reference Gallery. I'm told it's all original parts, and it was made during the second world war, hence the steel fount and pump, as brass was being used for the war.
Sometimes the thread which the control cock's gland nut screws onto is also made from steel and the link below shows an example with a magnet stuck to it. 8 Tilley control cocks
Hello all, here are some updated photos as we have done a full restoration now. Here are some photos of the lamp working if you are interested. EX 100 War time Exported steel Tilley I've come across another Tilley EX100 WW11 steel fount, so we decided to restore one and leave one as found, that one will remain unrestored in my collection, here is the link Tilley EX100 WW11 Steel Fount I did change the control cock valve over to my unrestored lamp, so that one will have the correct valve for the time period, also I've changed the burner head and air buttons over as these are part steel, the reason why this was done is because this restored one will be inside the house and being in the house will slow down rusting process, as there is less moisture inside rather than the outside shed. @Nils Stephenson Not sure as that's how it came, as you would know lots of EX Tilley lamps have mixed Kayen and Tilley parts on them, so its possible, maybe @Anthony might know.
@podbros Yes it's cool and the only one I have, at first when I was dismantling I thought it was a Kayen until I noticed the pat number.
Ah ! That’s just what I thought too as it looks ‘tall’ I’ve been lucky to see one up close and they are quite different ( I mean the Kayen burner )
I find the Kayen reflectors are usually a deeper green than that. I go on the seem on the edge. Round is Tilley, flat is Kayen. However I do not believe it is a definite rule.
Hi Anthony.. would it be possible to show two examples at all please? I only have a small screen and after peering through the gallery I’m a bit cross eyed x_x I have seen some examples that look more rounded but the first photo in this thread looks like a lot of the reflectors .. with this small screen anyroad *~* Many thanks pB
Hi Anthony! Thanks for those photos, much appreciated .. Yes, I can see the difference there alright , but to my eye the first pic in this thread looks flatter? It may be the angle, or this small screen but it doesn’t seem ‘rolled over’ enough? I suppose it doesn’t matter as I’m miles away and it’s not even my lantern so I’ll shut me gob
