Ok I’ll take the bait . The original school of thought was if this lantern (and some others) was not badged Knight then they were, by default Gloria’s My argument is that to my knowledge the only known Gloria lantern that exists ( excluding Australian made versions ) with documentation to back it up is the Oxo Gas Lantern No. 12 . This lantern is in the 1917 Gloria Light Catalogue and to my knowledge only one example has surfaced thus far and is in John Rugotzkes’ collection. It has a brass label affixed to the fount base which reads “Manufactured by Gloria Light Co. Chicago. Ill.” Although it’s not 100% exact to the original illustration ( differs in bail attachments) there is no argument this is the model in the catalogue as it is an illustration, not a photo . After this Gloria did advertise in American Exporter Magazine , June1919 ( thanks John for this ad) with a photo showing a variation of the Oxo gas from John’s version ( They were advertising for “Agents wanted in all unoccupied territories. “) On first glance it looks similar but is different in many ways . I own one and always dubbed it as a “Gloria export “ as more examples have turned up Downunder than in the US to my knowledge . My example came from my home state of Tasmania and after researching it about 7 years ago I found pics of Gloria Australia showing this version in their display along with advertisements in their Aussie catalogs , hence examples being found here in Australia. To confuse the matter the Australian Gloria catalogue used odd illustrations which was a mixture of Oxo gas and export ! My point is these are the only known examples of US Gloria Lanterns that are backed up with documentation to my knowledge To the contrary I have found evidence of an example of an unmarked lantern found in it’s original box . The box was stamped 310 and the instructions that came with it were were titled “Knights Lanterns Nos. 310 & 312 This is proof that unmarked doesn’t mean it’s Gloria as once speculated. There is also lots of ephemeral material all advertising your lantern and others as Knight Light Dean I believe by the advertising yours is the “Sunray” sold ( and given away with the 321 lamp ) by Knight Light Sunshine Safety have a badged version of this as well however subtle difference to vent perforations and a it ball nut not a loop make it unique Both styles accept the SS style internal thread or the conical tapered external thread torchlight generators as the valve assy caters for both types The bigger question is were these made by knight or another manufacturer and sold through them ?? I know Matt Purtell has done major digging on this and before he got sick was close to cracking it !! Best wishes mate ! This is a whole separate discussion!! In conclusion I’m not trying to discredit anyone and am happy to be corrected ! Neil and I have talked and I’ve shared with him these findings in the past ( Thinking big you mate!!) I guess I’m just a keen collector and am lucky enough to have 99 % of these Knights in my collection and always wanting to gather as much info as possible !!
