Hi all, Just registered, this because in addition to my collection of normal oil lamps I was able to get my hands on a Kohinoor 500 cp deluxe (made in India). Never used with original box. I have no idea from what time this dates, there is actually nothing to be found on the internet. I suspect that this is a clone (made under license) of a Petromax. Am I right or not, any tip is welcome. Happy burning!
@BigRonnyV It closely resembles THIS Prabhat. The Prabhat has probably required more effort to get it to work properly and reliably than I’ve spent on several other lanterns in total. What I classed as improvements HERE. Essential maintenance/repairs HERE.
Neil McRae’s Pressure Lamp Catalogue has this entry for Kohinoor: KOHINOOR. Anil & Company. 3484/8, Gali Lallu Misser, Sadar Bazar, Delhi, India. ‘Kohinoor’ 500cp kerosene lantern in the Petromax style. All brass construction. Alcohol pre heat only. Stamped on tank with “Original 500cp KOHINOOR Best Quality” Enamel label on hood with “Original Best Quality Made in India” (Mike Vaughn). Anil & Co is a comparatively modern business established in 1986 and these lanterns were being exported to the UK in about 2005. Tony
