This is my second Austramax, I think it is an earlier one, and the first I have had to tear down and do a complete fettle on. After having to set it aside for weeks due to other things coming up I was finally able to finish it this afternoon, and it seems to run fine, I popped the cap on my last Coopers to celebrate on this hot, humid Ohio evening. I am thoroughly impressed with the design, it is simple and robust, and after the initial pumping it seems to self pressurize, the fount gets good and hot, about like a Coleman 249. It is currently wearing a Peerless 2C-HG, and that seems to be right. I appreciate all the Austramax fettling posts on this forum, this is a neat, tidy little lantern. Wish they were still being made. Tomorrow I am going to try it with an amber globe, the bugs are awful this year and the amber globes seem to attract them less. Any thoughts on how many tanks of fuel the gen will last before needing rebuild?
Nice work, @William H Smith. I hope you enjoyed the Coopers! If you are using good quality kerosene, your generator should last a long time; about the same as a Coleman 249. And they are easily serviced if you don’t break the pricker wire. Cheers Tony
