I recently acquired this … … and need to get a Calor gas cylinder for it. New outright it’ll cost £80-£100 but a refill on exchange with an empty cylinder will only be half that amount or better. Empty cylinders crop up locally often but are unlikely in most cases to have Calor’s Cylinder Refill Agreement (CRA) with them. What I’d like to know is whether in your experience a retailer in such cases will refuse an exchange? Thanks. John
I have taken bottles back and they just charge you for the gas john. Just straight swap the bottle never asked for any paperwork. Cheers pete One thing to bear in mind is calor no longer do the smallest butane or propane any more so if you buy a second hand bottle bear this in mind think smallest is 6kg now check calor website phased out small bottles last year i think. Initial Announcement (Jan 2023): Calor planned to stop the 3.9kg Propane, 4.5kg Butane, 6Lite Propane, 12kg Butane, and The Cube cylinders. U-Turn (Early 2024): Following pressure from the boating community (RYA, BSS), Calor announced they would continue supplying and exchanging serviceable 3.9kg Propane and 4.5kg Butane for the "immediate future," but supply is limited. Longer Phase-Out: They've extended the timeframe for these specific cylinders, allowing users time to find alternatives, though the final discontinuation remains their goal. Focus on Alternatives: Calor is pushing for larger cylinders and promoting renewable DME gas for long-term sustainability, while some users switch to other brands (like Flogas) or battery power. What This Means for You: Check Availability: If you use 3.9kg Propane or 4.5kg Butane, contact your local Calor Centre to check stock for exchanges, as supplies are limited. Maybe its all ok now john seems a reverse on there descion But you dont need any paper just a bottle for sure Cheers pete
@pete sav Just the reassurance I needed Pete, thank you. 6kg is the size I’m after, big enough to give enough duration for occasional and brief light-ups without having to get a refill more than rarely but not too cumbersome for storage.
If you get a second hand 6kg they will just swap for a full one. Be nice to see it working john quite a big lamp to hike out tho Cheers pete
Calor cylinders are grouped such that you can exchange cylinders within the same group. So you could acquire a size that wasn't the one you wanted and exchanged it for a more suitable cylinder Refillable gas bottles and exchange | Calor In practice it may not help much, as the groups are quite narrow In practice, it m
Thanks Ian. One for Newark, though I’ll have to be careful where I point it, ‘cos with its unmarked reflector and a hefty output it’s certainly got the capacity to dazzle. Still, at full extension of the tripod (7ft) and pointed down out of eye-line of folks it should be ok.
