I've been looking for a strainer and funnel to ensure my paraffin is free from bits when filling lamps. They seem to be both rare and expensive so I'm wondering whether I could use a tea strainer and funnel.

I'm sure a stainless steel one with a very fine mesh ought to do the job, or even a cheap plastic one.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Sooty

An early coleman filter funnel is good, they came in copper or brass then aluminium later on.....

Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas.
My local Screfix has just put a suitable strainer funnel on sale so I will shortly be sorted.

For any Australians, T.W.Sands in Melbourne have a very nice filtering funnel that is a bit larger than say a Tilley type but is really useful for refiltering old kerosene and removes water as it has a very fine gauze. Vey well made and I use mine regularly.

    Do what I do.
Get a used, but clean 5lt fuel bottle. I use either a old lamp oil container or a old engine oil container. The one with the clear strip up the side.

A large 2lt fuel filet and line it with big coffee filter paper. or a smaller funnel with tesco own coffee filter paper.

Denat the fuel into the funnel, let gravity work. Clean fuel in a clean container's

I also use a Mr Funnel Filter, everytime I'm decanting Paraffin from a large can to a smaller one.
