I've been looking for a strainer and funnel to ensure my paraffin is free from bits when filling lamps. They seem to be both rare and expensive so I'm wondering whether I could use a tea strainer and funnel. I'm sure a stainless steel one with a very fine mesh ought to do the job, or even a cheap plastic one. Any thoughts? Thanks, Sooty

Thank you all for your thoughts and ideas. My local Screfix has just put a suitable strainer funnel on sale so I will shortly be sorted.
For any Australians, T.W.Sands in Melbourne have a very nice filtering funnel that is a bit larger than say a Tilley type but is really useful for refiltering old kerosene and removes water as it has a very fine gauze. Vey well made and I use mine regularly.
Do what I do. Get a used, but clean 5lt fuel bottle. I use either a old lamp oil container or a old engine oil container. The one with the clear strip up the side. A large 2lt fuel filet and line it with big coffee filter paper. or a smaller funnel with tesco own coffee filter paper. Denat the fuel into the funnel, let gravity work.
