Had a little trouble getting the e-mail confirmation.

Calling from the PeoplesRepublikofOregon, about a year ago I happened on this 828. My first kero and the first Petromax I ever saw for sale locally. Everything seems to be in place . The globe is replacement , and some of the seals seem to be quite recent. All else looks to be original . Most joints came apart readily but nothing inside was ever cleaned up. These come apart with ease. Fairly experienced with Colemans , but not these so I'll have a ton of questions , I dont want to leave anything undone. So I'll list what I think is going on at present. So thanx in advance if you care to lend advice.

    1. 1936-39 stamped Made in Germany cant find anything on the bottom.
    2. Seems to have all the parts
    3. It will need some small rubber parts and its not obvious to me where they fit
    4. The heat shield ,interior frame, bail and top cap are steel,
    5. Tips and suggestions are most welcome

    Welcome aboard!
That lantern should restore well and there is relevant paperwork in this forum's library, but it's only open to subscribers.

This is a lamp cobbled together from several different lamps.
The tank was manufactured in Altena,West Germany , between 1950 and 1953.
The fram was manufactured in Altena between 1958 and 1972.
The hood and cap are not from Petromax; they were made in Asia.
The rapid preheater knob is pre-war, dating from around 1936-1939 , and it doesen't belong on this post-war tank. This lamp should have a fragile, die-cast zinc rapid preheater lever.

I see from photos the top is different in shape and when taking down the heat shield has an almost home made look, didnt strike me as German precision.

    Hi Hitch and Welcome !

the hood may be off a Solar lantern?

it may still work fine as is and you still have nearly all of a Petromax?
it sounds like they are thin on the ground over there so still a good find, i’d say?

the link that Robbo posted is a great resource

    best regards

Yup, Im fortunate I bought it for a user, of course I'd like the full appreciation of an original , but ya cant have everything. They do seem rare hereabout. I've never searched for them but I've only seen this one. Never heard of 'Solar' . So yeah , I will continue to the finish, a little less enthusiastically though.

Thanx, that is the plan, regardless of pedigree.
