Amai. It was a spiritus or alcohol burner. I hope for you that the wick tube isn't bend or corroded inside. What often or maybe always happens is that the wet wick dry's inside the tube and corrosion kicks in. Then the wick becomes part of the tube vice versa. It works like the HASAG HS1 and HS2.
I think you have a later version of the Rusticus alcohol burner, probably around 1930. Attached you find an image from an Ehrich & Graetz 1932 catalogue! /Conny
And any idea on how does it work? I can't see any jet, any hole or connection between upper and lower part of the burner.
@Juan The alcohol incandescent burner with an off center jet is introduced already in the first year of the 1900,s with the French Bec Prefere No.1 and a patent from Clemont Germain. Several other burners with that concept were launch later, for example the Paris-Export "Radia" burner in 1910. In 1924 Ehrich & Graetz was granted a patent for the burner you have, and attached you find a patent drawing. /Conny 1900 Prefere No. 1 and Germain patent 1910 Radia burner 1924 Ehrich & Graetz "Rusticus" burner patent
