Latest project I picked up. There are a couple of holes in the bottom of the tank which I will have to repair first, before I can see how it performs.
I suspect the blue has been applied at a later date, but I may be wrong. The base of the tank and behind the reflector are black. I have yet to find any markings. Is there a way to date it?
Well it’s after 1937… and before Tilley started date stamping them (1960). Are there any indication of a decal or former brass plate on the back of the lamp? Tony
I haven't found anything yet, although there is definitely black paint underneath the blue. Repaired the holes in the tank today and changed the seals, working OK so far.
Cleaned and tinned the base, then cut a brass disk and drilled 12 equispaced holes 8 BA clearance. This was also tinned and wiped. Then fixed the brass disk to the bottom of the base drilling and tapping holes for 8BA. Heated up the disk and base so the tinned surfaces melted and bonded together. Now I know the leaks have been sealed I will heat enough to wipe and tidy the bottom up. Hope that makes sense.
