When my grandpa died and we cleared out his garage 25 years ago, I asked if I could have this lamp. No one else wanted it, so it's mine. I used it a fair bit when I first had it, but since then, it's mostly been in it's box, which is slowly disintegrating. During a more recent move, a "friend" knocked it, after strict instructions to be very careful with it, and cracked the glass. I've just got it back out of the box, where it has been hiding for the last 2 years and I'm intent on using it regularly again. I live semi off grid now and it would be a really useful addition to my outdoor space.... but first I need to find a new glass.
They are excellent lamps, simple and pretty rugged. The small crack isn't too bad but the crack may run away and break when its heated so be wary of that..... It uses the fairly common size of glass so you'll find a replacement easy if need be. Annoying its been damaged though Happy fettling, Alec.
Thanks. I was wondering if I could use the glass as is and see how it lasted. I'll source a new one for when the time comes. Now I've got to remember how to light it.
Welcome! nice lantern and really cool it’s your Granda’s he’d be pleased you are using it too :-) base camp stoves should be able to help regarding a user glass? i would probably keep the original safe as they’re scarce now but that’s just me cheers pb
