Ok so first time I’ve posted just not sure what way to go with this restoration . I have a parts donor mid 50s Australian 249 I picked up for spares The lantern I’m restoring is a 46 249 made in Canada that is brass without the nickle plating but the tanks been painted is there any value in keeping the rough paint or polish the brass under it ?. The bottom of the tank is in perfect condition with original stamp. If I was to paint it what is to closest matching color people use .
Welcome to CPL @Vapour224 Protect the information on the bottom with a clearcoat of automotive paint. Whether you clean, polish or repaint the fount is up to your preference. I think the original colour was known as Seafoam Green. Get them both going . Parts are available. Kerosene Lighting Melbourne – T W Sands & Co Old Coleman Parts eBay
The preheat cup on the 46 unfortunately had a hole where the spot weld was so it ended up being a mix of the 2 in the end . Found vinegar in a plastic container in the sonic bath amazing for getting the old generator springs to come out and removing baked on carbon bit more work on the polishing and an older style Coleman globe on its way
