Hello fellow lampers, I received a real shock today, my favourite late 1920's Tilley wall lamp failed! The light gradually faded and then went out and I knew that the burner and the vapouriser were fine, so what could the problem be? Thankfully, it was a very simple problem and easily fixed, the point had broken on the cleaning wire, but I had another cleaning wire. The lamp works really well again! I do like happy endings, Here is a photo of it, Jeff.
Probably a silly question but I see it has feet... are these simply to stand it up for refueling or are they intended to be used like that too?
Really a lovely lamp. I'm going to have to start looking for quality brass tubing and a way to gracefully bend it. I'd love to make some lamp like that out of Coleman parts.
Hello David, no, but it's cold enough for snow! Hello AL, 8mm copper tubing is perfect for making goosenecks. The easily bendable tubing is a bit to springy, so the hard copper pipe is the stuff to use, but it needs to be bent to a form, so you would need to make a jig. Or you can use copper plumbing bends and straight lengths of pipe. Fuel feed tubes will also be needed and copper brake pipe does the job well enough. Perhaps you will be taking a trip to your nearest scrap yard? Jeff.
