Number of new replies.

Quick question, maybe it's just on my computer but for the last few days, the number of new replies to a post doesn't show like it used to neither does the number of new threads. I realise that this is how CCS has been ever since I started looking over there but I like that feature over here as I know how many new things I have to read without going through all the links to see what has been posted where. Is this problem occurring for everyone or has something change that I am unaware of? Thanks, best regards Matt.

yes I dont see it either,used to be in a little box next to the number of replies,,,,its gone now

 

yeah missing for me too was a nice feature.

Been gone for a while for me - I thought I was the only one...

 

The numbr in the little box would show the amount of new replies on the front index & then on each sub-index as you drilled into the site.

It is a great feature but puts a very heavy load on the database as it has to calculate that figure for every member online, across a lot of forums & keep up to date. The developers don't recommend it's use on big forums & CPL & CPL are now classed as big forums. As a result I have switched the feature off to lighten the load on the database.

The feature was useful but personally I don't really pay much attention to them.

The alternative way to stay abreast of new content is to look at the lamp icon to the left of each forum heading. If it is brass coloured there is new content in that forum you haven't seen. If it is grey there isn't.

Also use the recent post link on the top navbar - my default method. That shows all the latest post that day & you can go back day by day or week by week. There are also links to new threads - so you filter out the replies. At the bottom of the listing is a drop down box - one of the options in there is 'new files' which gives you the option to just check new posts with images.

There will be some changes to the forum this year which will hopefully bring new features & enhancements.

 

Mine too. It's the easiest and best way to keep up with every new post.
Once in "Recent posts", you can choose to click on the text "Expand".
That way the full posts will show directly, and you don't have to go to each separate topic to read those different new posts in them.

 

I fully appreciate the issue of server load, and I'm tickled to thing that we're now a large forum!
