Thought these early Primus parts were a good buy for £12 all-in. Anyone know what the U stamped on the pump knob means?
    Cheers

Not a bad buy. By the looks of the parts they must have come from a lamp made between 1934 and 1937.

You quite often see a letter stamped on the end of the pump rod on Primus stuff up the late 1930s. I remember seeing U and P, but have seen other letters. Have no idea what it means as it doesn't correspond to the date in any way.

Thanks for the info Nils, very interesting. As you'll already be aware the spanner is for a stove.

I thought so, but can't say which one. What is the number on the spanner? I can't quite make it out in the picture.

    Hi

It's a Primus forged spanner 8) much better than the pressed steel ones provided in the boxed stove sets , one of the best fettling tools i have for stoves ( besides a certain type of NRV tool :D ) & they do turn up occasionaly , a keeper 8)

The spanner is a No 1627. The text is actually visible in the photo.

Also seen on page 34 in this catalogue of the 30's at CCS.

Your eyes are better than mine Christer. :) I could only be certain about the last two numbers.

This spanner is mentioned all the way from 1903 to 1947. Up to the mid 1920s it was called R627 and at least from 1929 it was 1627. The catalogues I have from after 1947 don't mention spanners by number. It suited just about every stove except the ones with No.3 or larger type burners.

Thats right, its a 1627. Quite hefty for a spanner this size and the larger end has a round cut-out inside. If it fits most Primus stoves I'll hold on to it for when I get my first stove, just a matter of time..
    Cheers
