Hello, I live in Brazil and am looking for supplier of pressure lantern. Would like some indication of suppliers. Can someone direct me to some manufacturers? I give preference to American or European lanterns! Thank you!
Coleman is the first that comes to my mind. Here's one link. Petromax would be the second maker that I think of. One retailer is Hytta.de, as seen here.
Hi neighbor!... ( A Peruvian expat here)I would recommend an all brass lantern as there is a lot of moisture in Brasil, and a steel fount would not last long unless you kept it in a can of grease, possibly your best bet would be a Petromax, as spares are readily available in the region, avoid steel founts. Some really good lanterns here too: http://prela.ch/shop/shop.html go to "Komplette lampen" on the left menu under " Petromax"and you will find some very reasonably priced lanterns there.
Thank you, I found a manufacturer with the lowest price and good quality, http://shop.britelyt.com/. What do you think? I'm looking for quality. I recently purchased a lamp Anchor and I was not happy with the quality. Before first use I had to remove spills and make a weld! Great! Would expect much from a Chinese product. I paid a lot for Anchor lamp here in Brazil, U.S. $ 140.00. Very expensive! Here in Brazil we do not have good brand representatives, if anyone knows of suppliers interested in supplying to Brazil, let me know.
I think I'm correct in saying Britelyt lanterns are Chinese, too. Somebody correct me, please, if that's not right...
Great news! I found a supplier of brand PETROMAX. Yes, they are still manufactured. http://www.pelam.de/index.php?cPath=28 I think they are PETROMAX with German quality. Correct me if I'm wrong. The Britelyt lamp is made in china. I checked in forums that there are many problems in quality control of Britelyt product.
Britelyt and Pelam get their lamps from the same factory in Hong Kong. Petromax are made there by Santromax. The quality is perhaps better than the Shanghai made Anchor but you might as well look for Butterfly which are made by Lea Hin also in Hong Kong but they make an all brass lamp which is generally a better product than an average Anchor and maybe as good as the modern HK made Petromax. There is no such thing as a German made Petromax any more. They are however imported to Germany where they get a globe added and are boxed which means they are finally assembled in Germany so the lamps are still marked "Made in Germany" In this case made means assembled not manufactured. ::Neil::
Of the companies still making pressure lamps I think Coleman are the best when it comes to price vs quality. And as far as I know they are still made in the USA.
The issue with Coleman is that there is basically no spare parts in South America, all of it is imported and in some extreme cases, the parts may be as expensive as the lantern itself, Petromax style has a strong distribution, even in remote areas, as is the de facto lantern model in South America. Also beware of the britelyt claims of "multifuel", Petromax lanterns are designed to burn only Kerosene, they do not have a positive shut off valve, and the pump non return valve rests directly inside the fuel, if you have a leak in the pump, fuel valve or gaskets with anything other than kerosene, you can have a very serious fire hazard. Also the guys have a strong point, if you are getting a modern lantern, make sure it is made of brass, it will last generations, compared with steel.
Also I dont know that I would trust britelyt. Ive heard horror stories of others getting their lanterns and theyre broken or orders being very slow to arrive, like taking months
