    Hello
I have just recently got myself an Optimus 930 and I have changed the pump leather, cleaned the tank and changed the NRV.
The problem remaining is that it appears orange flames around the mantle when lit, and the mantle get black spots in the start and turns mostly black after a while. Ive read that this happens due to lack of gasmixture.

I did read on pelam.de that it might be the upper vapouriser that needs to be cleaned or changed due to clogging of soot.

Here is a exploded drawing of the 930 http://www.base-camp.co.uk/Optimus/930.htm

The jet may be enlarged and giving every part of a lamp a good clean always helps, Jeff.

By enlarged jet, you mean that the jet lets out to much gas and it needs to be changed?

An enlarged jet-- larger diameter from use and augering out with a picker wire too much--which may due to the gas/air mixture being off (?)

This makes actually no sense. The Germans say to little gas and you say to much. Gonna go big or go home and change both jet and vaporizer.

There was a lot of fragments in the tank which looked like remnants of a destroyed pumpleather. Perhaps I should also try to clean the lower vaporizer tube as well?

Thanks for the help so far. Lets hope that this might solve the black mantle problem.

A clean lamp will always work better. Jeff.

True, and in this case it was extremely needed. Gonna ask the seller what he has been fueling this lamp with, must have been some really bad quality involved. The upper vaporizer is full of soot and other particles, not to mention the cleaning needle which also was covered in soot and gunk.

Too little or too much has the same effect on the burn. However the jet hole tends to wear which will make it biger. Not often a jet grows smaller with use. In fact there is another parameter here. The size of the jet is critical but also the shape of the hole is important. A ragged outlet changes the form of the fuel spray and this alone can cause a poor burn. Sometimes you can improve things just by cleaning off the flat top of the jet. Lap it on an oil stone until the flat top is clean brass. Don't take too much off because there is not much metal there but this little trick can often improve the shape of the fuel spray and give you a better performance. ::Neil::

Hum, starting to fix the jet on my own sounds like a disaster about to happen. Think it is best just to buy another jet instead. Does anybody know where I might get a 350CP jet for Optimus 930? I have asked Base Camp about their jet for the 930, but I have not gotten the answer yet. Did read some place that one might use a Petromax jet instead, not sure if that is true.
